To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many new-build (a) sheltered and (b) non-sheltered or general needs houses have been built by Scottish district councils in each year since 1974; and if he will make a statement.

Information on housebuilding by user category is not readily available for the years prior to 1986 and could be extracted only at disproportionate cost. The available information is set out in the table.
