To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures police forces are taking in conjunction with local education authorities to warn pupils of the dangers of drug taking.

All police forces in England and Wales have police/schools liaison programmes formed in partnership with local education authorities, where police officers visit school pupils with the aim of fostering young people's awareness of their rights and responsibilities as citizens. Discussion about the dangers of drugs is a common topic with older pupils.The police are also involved with many drugs prevention schemes initiated by other agencies, particularly those supported by the Home Office drugs prevention initiative teams. Examples of the police contribution there include: anti-drugs poster campaigns, the distribution of a free "phone card" with the numbers of drugs helpline services, and co-operation with the entertainment industry to prevent drug misuse at rave venues.
