To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of the number of people in Scotland exempted from payment of the community charge on the grounds of severe mental impairment In each year of its existence.

[holding answer 25 May 1993]: For each of the years in question the table shows the numbers of persons in Scotland aged 18 or over recorded on the community charge register as exempt from the community charge by reason of severe mental handicap.
