Unregistered Doctors

To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether a doctor with medical qualifications from another country may practise as a medical practitioner in this country without registering with the General Medical Council.

All doctors wishing to work as medical practitioners in the United Kingdom must be registered with the General Medical Council. An overseas qualified doctor must obtain the necessary registration from the General Medical Council in order to engage in any professional employment as a medical practitioner in the United Kingdom.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether United Kingdom pharmacists may dispense prescription-only medicines prescribed by doctors not registered with the General Medical Council.
