To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will take steps to require those organising car auctions to keep records of those selling and buying motor vehicles.

[holding answer 26 May 1993]: No. The costs of introducing and policing a compulsory system of recording details of buyers and sellers would not represent value for money and would far outweigh any perceived consumer benefits.
