To ask the Secretary of State for Health what percentage increases in salaries have been awarded to chairmen of regional health authorities, district health authorities and family health service authorities in respect of financial years (a) 1990–91, (b) 1991–92 and (c) 1992–93 in each region.

Percentage increases awarded to chairmen of regional health authorities, district health authorities and family health services authorities since April 1990 are shown in the table. The same rates of increase applied in each region.

Notes: 1. The increases effective from 1 April 1990 resulted from a restructuring of chairmen's remuneration to reflect more accurately the level of responsibility and time commitment involved.
