Maternity Leave

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what account was taken of the Government's obligations under the Innocenti declaration on breastfeeding in drawing up the Government's policy on the length of maternity leave in the Trade Union Reform and Employment Rights Bill.

The Government considered all relevant factors in bringing forward the Bill's provisions, which will greatly enhance the statutory maternity rights of pregnant employees, regardless of their length of service or hours of work.
