To ask the Attorney-General what was the cost of the prosecution of the three Surrey police officers recently tried for their role in the Guildford and Woolwich case.

The total cost of the prosecution of the three Surrey police officers cannot yet be ascertained. Payments made by the Crown prosecution service so far in relation to this case amount to £263,440·80 including VAT. 'This covers counsel fees, copying costs and obtaining transcripts. The full cost to the prosecution is still being assessed.The above figure does not include related costs incurred by other agencies, such as the police and the Lord Chancellor's Department.
