To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps she is taking to ensure that all purchasing authorities contract for parent-held records.

We plan to write to health authorities shortly, commending the use of personal child health records and informing them of the publication of the second edition of a model record produced by a working party led by the British Paediatric Association.

I have been asked to reply.The Department of Health and the Department of the Environment received, in July 1990, the report of the group of experts convened to examine cryptosporidium in water supplies chaired by Sir John Badenoch. Following its recommendations, research is under way which may establish the infective dose of cryptosporidium.
