To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps are currently being undertaken by his Department to secure a reduction in the demand for aggregates in the United Kingdom.

Draft guidelines and a policy issues paper on aggregate extraction were issued in January. The responses received are now being reviewed. The future level of demand for aggregates is central to that review.
