To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list all the computer consultancies employed by his Department and agencies, since November 1991, the tasks for which they were engaged, and the total cost to his Department.
The tables list the computer consultancies employed by the diplomatic and aid wings of the Department and its agencies since November 1991. The total cost in each wing is £7,252,824 and £430,803 respectively. In the diplomatic wing the consultancies have been employed on the implementation of the information systems strategic plan, at home and overseas. The tasks include feasibility studies, programme and project management, baselining and enhancements to systems, software development and installation, contingency planning and information technology training, and systems maintenance. More detailed information on the tasks of individual consultancies could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
