To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many claims have been made for severe hardship in Wales in each year from 1989–90; and if he will indicate (a) total requests, (b) claims accepted, (c) claims refused and (d) the percentage of successful claims.

Such information as is available is in the table. Information prior to January 1991 is not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
