To ask the President of the Board of Trade what progress has been made in his target to develop by August a strategy for use of the radioactive incident monitoring network in a United Kingdom emergency through integration into the existing nuclear emergency briefing room procedures.

Radioactive incident monitoring network equipment has been installed within the nuclear emergency briefing room and Department of Trade and Industry staff have participated in testing and demonstration of the system. Agreement has been reached in general terms on how it will be integrated into nuclear emergency briefing room procedures when the radioactive incident monitoring network phase 2 comes on stream towards the end of this year.
