To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received from the transport users consultative committee for north-western England concerning investment and modernisation of the west coast main line for provision of IC225 trains for that route; and if he will make a statement.

The most recent representation from the transport users' consultative committee about upgrading the west coast main line was in its 1992–93 annual report which was sent to me earlier this month.
