To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people in (a) the Greenock travel-to-work area, (b) Strathclyde and (c) Scotland have been unemployed for 12 months or longer.

[holding answer 26 July 1993]: The latest Employment Department figures show that in April 1993 the number of claimants unemployed for 12 months or more in the Greenock travel-to-work area, Strathclyde and Scotland was 2,019, 50,853 and 86,591 respectively.
