To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the submissions he has received in respect of the Office of Fair Trading report on commission disclosure in respect of independent financial advisers and direct sale forces in the insurance industry; and if he will make a statement.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply that my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Chelmsford (Mr. Burns) on 22 July 1993 at columns 296–300.The Treasury has received some 800 written responses from all sectors of the industry, almost all of which have included representations about commission disclosure.
