To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will list the total cost of travel expenses claimed by civil servants using their own vehicles for official business in each of the past five years; and what the saving would have been in the last year if the maximum rate that could be claimed was set at the current lowest rate. Departments and agencies are responsible for setting the rates of allowances to reimburse staff for travel by private vehicle on official business. Details of the rates are not collected centrally.
