To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is planning to take to limit the annual income of water authority board members. [33404]

The Government are examining the recommendations of the recently published reports by the Employment Select Committee on the remuneration of directors and chief executives of the privatised utilities and the Greenbury committee on directors' pay. A considered response will be made in due course.
