To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has to review the scope of the statutory responsibilities of Ofwat. [33405]

The Government have tabled an amendment to the Environment Bill that would give the Director General of Water Services powers to determine the actions that water companies should take to promote the efficient use of water by their customers, and to publish standards of performance in this respect. My right hon. Friend has no plans, at present, further to review the statutory responsibilities of Ofwat.
