To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many (a) schools have integrated status and (b) pupils attend such schools; what is their (i) socio-economic, (ii) religious background (iii) geographical distribution; and what further proposals he has for such schools. [34373]

From September 1995 there will be 28 integrated schools in Northern Ireland:

• Corran, Lame
• Cranmore, Belfast
• Enniskillen
• Forge, Belfast
• Hazelwood, Newtownabbey
• Lough View, Belfast
• Milstrand, Portrush
• Oakgrove, Londonderry
• Omagh
• Primary
• Portadown
• Saints and Scholars, Armagh
• Windmill, Dungannon
• Cedar, Crows
• Portaferry
• Secondary
• Bronwlow College, Craigavon
• Erne College, Enniskillen
• Hazelwood College, Belfast
• Lagan College, Belfast
• Oakgrove College, Londonderry
• Shimna College, Newcastle
• Armagh/South Tyrone College, Dungannon
• Drumrah College, Omagh
• New Bridge College, Loughbrickland

The total enrolment of these schools is estimated to be just over 5,000 and the religious balance to be 48 per cent. Roman Catholic, 38 per cent. Protestant, 8 per cent. other Christian denominations, 1 per cent. non-Christian and 5 per cent. unattributed. Detailed information in the socio-economic background of pupils is not available.I expect to receive a number of proposals both for new integrated schools and for the transformation of existing schools to integrated status.
