Mr. Madden
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment by what means Her Majesty's Government continued exemption, notwithstanding the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations, for Sikh turban wearers employed in construction and serving in the armed forces. [35583]
Sir Paul Beresford
Section 11 of the Employment Act 1989 exempts Sikh turban wearers from any statutory requirements to wear protective headgear while on a construction site. The position of Sikh turban wearers in the armed forces is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.
