To ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimate he has made of the cost to the NHS of the recent decision by BUPA to withdraw automatic cover for intensive care treatment for patients who undergo routine surgery. [36623]

This will depend on factors which are not predictable, including future patients' individual circumstances and unexpected complications during treatment. People who have a right to national health service treatment retain their right whether or not they are receiving, or have received, private treatment.
