To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will call for a report from NHS trusts on arrangements in place to improve the security of midwives, district nurses and other carrying drugs to relieve pain to patients in the community. [37100]

No. There is a continuing responsibility on national health service trust management to ensure that staff in the community can practice in safety. The NHS executive provides guidance to local managers who must devise local solutions in their own particular circumstances. The NHS security manual includes a suggested "check list" to be used by staff involved in home visiting.
