To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to his answer of 3 May, Official Report, column 525, what progress has been made in introducing contractorising of support services at RAF Valley; and what bids have been received from the RAF itself in these contracting processes. [36962]

An invitation to tender was issued on 14 September, leading to a planned contractor award in April 1996. Following consultation with the trades unions and other interested parties, it has been decided not to proceed with an in-house bid.
