To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage how much his Department allocates for tourism promotion in each tourist board area. [36718]

The Department of National Heritage sponsors the English tourist board which makes grants to the regional tourist boards in England for the operation of national programmes. The formula for funding RTBs is agreed between the ETB and the RTBs and is based on scale, need and performance. The regions can also apply for additional funding for specific projects from a tourism development fund.In 1994–95 the total funding made available to the regional tourist boards, including their allocation from the TDF, was as follows:
