To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what she is doing to reduce the concentration of national media in the hands of a small number of owners. [35924]

The Government's proposals for the future regulation of media ownership are set out in its policy document, Cm 2872, published in May 1995. These aim to preserve the diversity of the broadcast and press media, while introducing greater flexibility in ownership to reflect the needs and aspirations of the industry.
