To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage how she intends to ensure that the country's great sporting events are shown live on terrestial television. [35911]

Sports rights holders should be free to dispose of their broadcasting rights in the way they choose. Rights owners should be allowed to judge the balance between the level of income from broadcasting rights, the size of the television audience, the amount and type of coverage and the impact on potential spectators and supporters.
