To ask the Secretary of State for Health what assessment his Department has made of the health risk associated with long-term exposure to chemicals used for dipping sheep. [36612]

The Department of Health's staff continually assess evidence relating to the health risks associated with long term exposure to chemicals used for dipping sheep. In particular officials provided expert input into the two meetings held by the Veterinary Products Committee in 1992 and 1993 to discuss the future licensing of organophosphorus sheep dips. The Department continues to provide expert input to the medical and scientific panel which the VPC set up to investigate the long-term health effects of exposure to these products. The panel has yet to report its final conclusions.
