To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the EC countries which have dedicated and purpose-built surface vessels available for at-sea recovery or dispersal of pollution; and if he will list the vessels. [35743]

This is an operational matter for the Coastguard Agency. The chief executive has written to the hon. Member.

Letter from C. J. Harris to Mr. Calum Macdonald, dated 20 July 1995:

The Secretary of State for Transport has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question as the question deals with an operational matter, for which I have responsibility as Chief Executive.
Information from the EC Community Information System 1994 is in the table attached. The EC System does not distinguish between vessels which are purpose-built and solely dedicated for at-sea recovery or dispersal of pollution, and those vessels which are equipped and available for such duties but which may have other roles.
