To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the Government's policy on involvement in wars overseas. [36576]

The United Kingdom is committed to the defence of its dependent territories and, under article 5 of the Washington treaty, to assist a NATO ally should its territory come under attack. In addition, we shall continue to play an appropriate role—political, diplomatic or military—in international efforts to promote peace and stability.
