To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many Royal Navy ships have visited Hamilton since the closure of HMS Malabar; and at what cost. [10254]

Since the closure of HMS Malabar on 31 March 1995, three Royal Navy ships and a Royal Navy submarine and a Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship have visited Bermuda. The bills for the three Royal Navy ship visits have not yet been received, but the ships' broker and agent has estimated a total approximate cost of £33,000, excluding refuelling costs. The cost of the submarine visit was £107,559; that for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship is not yet available.
