To ask the Attorney-General what consultations he has hade with the South Wales police in relation to the conviction of John Bennett and Keith Wilson for corruption in Welsh Office printing contracts. [9598]

The Crown Prosecution Service forwarded to my Department a file of the evidence which resulted from the investigation into the activities of John Bennett and Keith Wilson by the South Wales police. The evidence was considered by the Solicitor-General who agreed to grant his fiat to prosecute both men under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906. Neither the Solicitor-General nor I have had any direct contact with the South Wales police.
