To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the total cost to public funds of the review conducted by Sir William Utting of residential child care and his report "Children in the Public Care". [35145]

[holding answer 1 July 1996]: The cost of Sir William Utting's review was around £25,000.The Utting report, "Children in the Public Care", was a priced Her Majesty's Stationery Office document and there were no costs to public funds arising from its publication.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the total cost to public funds of the committee of inquiry into the selection, development and management of staff in children's homes zeparately identifying the cost of the report "Choosing with Care". [35147]

[holding answer 1 July 1996]: The cost of the Warner committee of inquiry into the selection, development and management of staff in children's homes was £171,000.

There were no costs from the publication of "Choosing with Care", which was a Her Majesty's Stationery Office priced publication.
