To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if United Kingdom dependent nations are bound to abide by international conventions to which the United Kingdom has signed up; and what responsibility is held by which United Kingdom authorities for ensuring that they adhere to such conventions. The UK dependent territories are bound to abide by only those international conventions that the UK, in consultation with the territories in question, has extended to them.The Government bear international responsibility for ensuring that the dependent territories comply with the obligations of those international conventions which apply to them.
