To ask the President of the Board of Trade what steps he intends to take to discourage misleading holiday price advertisements. [36095]

I believe that the present legislation deals adequately with misleading holiday prices advertisements. There are provisions in the Consumer Protection Act 1987, enforced by trading standards departments, which make it a criminal offence to give consumers a misleading price indication about goods, services, accommodation or facilities. In addition, the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 prohibit organisers and retailers from supplying to consumers any descriptive matter concerning a package, the price of a package or any other conditions applying to the contract which contains any misleading information.
