To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 27 June, Official Report, column 211, what has been the public expenditure on higher education in Wales, excluding public expenditure on student maintenance, in (a) cash, (b) real terms and (c) expressed as a percentage of (i) estimated Welsh gross domestic product and (ii) estimated United Kingdom gross domestic product for each financial year since 1989–90; and what is planned for (1) 1996–97, (2) 1997–98 and (3) 1998–99.
