To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many (a) schools, (b) primary schools and (c) secondary schools there were in 1995–96 in England and Wales and in each country;

Information on the number of primary arid secondary schools in England and the proportion whose governing bodies have given parents an opportunity to vote in a ballot on grant-maintained status is given in the following table.Education in Wales is the responsibility of my right hon.
