To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make a statement on his Department's timetable for dealing with the Year 2000 Computer Problem; who is in charge of the project; how many staff are working on it; what is the projected cost of resolving the problem; and whether the project is on schedule. An assessment of the effect of the millennium date change has been undertaken. A central unit is co-ordinating this work; around 25 staff are spending some time working on the various systems throughout the Department.I do not expect there to be any major costs involved in ensuring that my Department's computer systems can cater for the Year 2000.The project is on schedule.
