Arable Area Payments

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many payments were made under the arable area payment scheme in 1996 (a) £0 to £1,000, (b) £1,000 to £2,000, (c) £2,000 to £3,000, (d) £3,000 to £4,000, (e) £4,000 to £5,000, (f) £5,000 to £10,000, (g) £10,000 to £20,000, (h) £20,000 to £50,000, (i) £50,000 to £100,000 and (j) over £100,000. During 1996–97, the Welsh Office made arable area payments to 2,359 farmers, with the payments breaking down as follows:

  • (a) £0 to £1,000 = 453
  • (b) £1,000 to £2,000 = 504
  • (c) £2,000 to £3,000 = 334
  • (d) £3,000 to £4,000 = 299
  • (e) £4,000 to £5,000 = 387
  • (f) £5,000 to £10,000 = 95
  • (g) £10,000 to £20,000 = 171
  • (h) £20,000 to £50,000 = 101
  • (i) £50,000 to £100,000 = 11
  • (j) over £100,000 = 4.
