To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) if he will list the distance from spending target of each NHS trust in (a) Cornwall and (b) Devon in each year since 1992 for which figures are available. [15472](2) if he will list the deficits of

(a) health authorities and (b) national health service trusts in (i) Devon and (ii) Cornwall in each year since 1979 for which figures are available. [15388]

Details of the income and expenditure deficits of (a) health authorities and (b) National Health Service trusts in (i) Devon and (ii) Cornwall since 1991–92 are given in the table. Figures for earlier years will be placed in the Library shortly. The distance from spending target in NHS trusts has been interpreted as the income and expenditure position since NHS trusts are not set spending targets as such but receive income through contracts for healthcare provision to cover their expenditure.
