To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what assistance her Department is giving to demining operations in (i) Angola, (ii) Laos, (iii) Cambodia and (iv) the Falkland Islands. [17750]

Since 1991, some £9.6 million has been spent bilaterally in supporting demining activities in Angola, Cambodia and Laos.My Department is currently supporting trials of an anti-personnel land mine detector in Angola, a composite programme of data gathering, clearance and community awareness of unexploded ordnance in Laos and several programmes in Cambodia, including support to develop national capacity in demining and projects on clearance, community awareness and assistance to mine victims. My Department has not allocated resources for demining in the Falkland Islands. Our projects are co-ordinated with the substantial resources allocated by the European Community, which are partly attributed to my Department.
