To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his answers of 2 March 1998, Official Report, column 453, on credit control, (1) if he will now use the reserve requirement to restrict the expansion of credit; [37229](2) what assessment he has made of alternative monetary policy instruments. The operational decisions necessary to meet the Government's inflation target are now taken by the Monetary Policy Committee.
