To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the number and proportion of pensioners who would pay (a) no income tax and (b) income tax at (i) 10 per cent., (ii) 20 per cent., (iii) 23 per cent. and (iv) 40 per cent. in 1999–2000 or the latest year for which figures are available if people aged over 65 years received only the basic personal tax allowance.
