To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the (a) highest and (b) lowest value of the pound has been with respect to (i) the euro and (ii) the dollar in each year that is applicable since 1997; and if he will make a statement. [102927]

Data on bilateral exchange rates can be obtained from the Office for National Statistics, or from the Bank of England website.The Government do not comment on day-to-day movements in the foreign exchange markets. The Government's objective for the exchange rate remains a stable and competitive pound in the medium term.
