To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what assessment has been made of the effect of his policy on building density on the quality of housing. [107148]

There is no direct link between quality and density. There are some excellent examples of high quality housing built at high density, and the converse. The key is good design.The Communities Plan announced additional funding for the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) to drive up design standards and share best practice.
