To ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimate he has made of the number of school children taking the drug Ritalin; and if he will make a statement] [110187]

Information is not collected centrally on the number of children taking Ritalin. Ritalin is one of the proprietary names for methylphenidate hydrochloride. In 2001, 208,500 prescription items of methylphenidate hydrochloride were dispensed in the community in England.
