Mr. Soames
To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the amount of expenditure on the hospital building programme in each of the last five available years, excluding PFI contracts. [110796]
Mr. Hutton
The Department does not separately identify expenditure on the hospital building programme. The Department does collect information on total capital expenditure in the National Health Service. This is shown in the table below.
Financial Year | Total (£000) |
1997–1998 | 1,153,298 |
1998–1999 | 1,114,241 |
1999–2000 | 1,635,032 |
2000–2001 | 1,744,304 |
2001–2002 | 1,969,080 |
Total: | 7,615,955 |
