To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department pursuant to his Answer of 25 March 2003, Official Report, column 151W, what his estimate is of the total number of education hours lost throughout the Prison Service over the last 12 months due to staff shortages; and if he will estimate the financial cost of these lost hours. [110889]

Records of hours ordered and delivered are kept by individual prison establishments, but have not been centrally collected, collated or aggregated for the period in question. The costs of doing so would be disproportionate.
