To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what progress has been made in meeting targets for the proportion of people with disabilities in senior posts in the Department. [110519]

My Department is committed to increasing the proportion of people with disabilities amongst its Senior Civil Service (SCS) staff. A substantial proportion of SCS positions are openly advertised, research is underway to help decide how best to attract more applicants from under-represented groups and a Disability Co-ordinator has been appointed to advise and support disabled staff and actively manage action to make reasonable adjustments to enable them to work as effectively as possible. My Department's aim is that by 2005, 3 per cent. of those in the SCS should be people with disabilities. The current proportion is 0.7 per cent., and has not changed significantly in the last 2 years.
