To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department pursuant to his answer of 28 April 2003, Official Report, column 64W, whether the research study on mandatory drug testing will be assessing the impact of the time that the different types of drug tested for stay in the system on (a) prisoner attitudes to drug taking and (b) the class and type of drug consumed in prisons by prisoners with (i) a history and (ii) no history of Class A drug offences. [111792]

The research study considered all of these issues. Patterns, causes and effects of drug taking are, however, complex and analysis of the research findings may not prove straightforward.
